Panel Discussion and Press Conference: In Memorial of Worldwide Day on Genital Autonomy on the 7th May 2019

LogoOn the occasion of the worldwide day of genital autonomy (WWDOGA), TERRE DES FEMMES, Projekt 100% Mensch and MOGiS e.V. invite all interested people to a joint press conference at the Haus der Demokratie und Menschenrechte (engl.: House of democracy and human rights) in Berlin on 7th May 2019 at 10.30 a.m.

The press conference serves as a starting point for the one-year sensitisation campaign “Mein Körper – Unversehrt und Selbstbestimmt” (My Body – Intact and Autonomous). The campaign advocates the genital autonomy of children and opposes all kinds of non-medical and unnecessary interventions on their genitalia.

Now We Can Start – Last Session for the CHANGE Trainers

Soon they are ready: The CHANGE Trainers of the EU-project “Let’s CHANGE” can now start giving training sessions on female genital mutilation (FGM) to key professionals. Through these training courses, key personnel from job areas like health services, child protection, education and asylum-seeking services acquire knowledge on how to deal with people affected by FGM.

On Saturday, 13th of April 2019, all six Trainers gathered in the TERRE DES FEMMES head office where FGM policy experts Dr. Idah Nabateregga and Charlotte Weil accompanied their last session.

Motivated into the Next Project Cycle: First Training for CHANGE Trainers

The co-financed European-wide project “Let’s CHANGE” has already gone full speed since the beginning of the year and on Saturday, the 16th of February 2019, the first training for the CHANGE Trainers took place. Quite early in the morning, they gathered in the Berlin head office of TDF where FGM policy experts Dr. Idah Nabateregga and Charlotte Weil already waited for them. Together both of them are realising the trainings sessions for the multipliers. Moreover, for some of the sessions, external experts will be invited.

It has been a happy gathering for everyone since the last meeting of the entire group was the Community-Kick Off in December 2018.

National Book Table Promotion on 6th of February 2019, International Day „Zero Tolerance of Female Genital Mutilation

Once more, TERRE DES FEMMES’s annual book table action in occasion of the International Day of Zero Tolerance on the 6th of February has taken place. Aim of the activity is to raise public awareness on female genital mutilation, illustrate current developments concerning the fight of this human rights violation and encourage interested people to get involved.

First Time Conviction of female genital mutilation in the United Kingdom: A “Milestone” in British History

In Great Britain, a London court has convicted a woman of female genital mutilation for the first time. The woman, originating from Uganda, has first been indicted by the court and finally found guilty on the 1st of February 2019 for mutilating her three-year-old daughter’s genitalia in 2017. According to the BBC, the 37-year-old mother faces a prison sentence of up to 14 years; the final sentence, however, is expected to be announced on the 8th of March 2019.
