My name is Binta Fatty and I was born in 1987 in the Gambia and I’m living now in Europe. I am the Founder and the CEO of “Women decide NO to FGM & child marriage, YES to education for all girls”. This is a non-profit organization registered in Germany that advocates to stop all harmful practices towards women and girls, and to promote education for girls. After giving birth at the age of 15, I suddenly had to be become an adult. I never stopped to commit myself in making the world a better place.
While I was still living in the Gambia, I started being a fervent activist against FGM and of child marriage which unfortunately prevails still largely in my country. During my student years in Poland, I organized several African-Polish Business Cooperation Conferences, I worked in humanitarian organizations and represented the Gambia on the annual European Economics Congress in Katowice.
On November 25th 2018, I organized the Survivors match "Orange the world" for the first time in Berlin. In the course of the #HearMeToo campaign, we came together for 16 days to end violence against women and girls. Then, I organized an awareness demonstration on the International Day “Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation”, using the hashtag #UnitedToStopFGM in Berlin powered by TERRE DES FEMMES e.v. on Febrauary 6th 2019.
My educational background includes a B.A. in International Business from Skarbek University of Poland and a graduate certificate in Diplomacy and International Organisation from the Europoean Academy of Diplomacy in Warsaw, Poland.
As a “CHANGE Agent” I believe that through education and open discussions on the topic, especially in very far remote villages, the dominant taboos will be brought down and that this so-called tradition is finally tackled down.
