Structure
Today, the association has about 2800 members, and many women are very involved in honorary groups all over the country. In co-operation with the headquarters in Tübingen, they inform the public on exploitation, mistreatment and persecution of women. Roadshows, information stands, lobbying, the media, recitations and signature campaigns are the means of this information.

The Member's Assembly
The member's assembly is the primary organ of the association. Each female member is entitled to vote. There is at least one general assembly per year. Its tasks are the following:

  • to determine the focal points of our work
  • to elect the members of the board
  • to receive the annual accounting and annual report and to  dismiss the board.

The Board
The board is elected for a period of one year. It consists of a collective of three to five women and elects from within its members a chairwoman who judicially represents the association. The board members are responsible for the work of TERRE DES FEMMES, and the implementation of decisions is incumbent upon them. They have to account for their work to the general assembly. The board members' work is honorary.
In 1990, the board engaged a managing director, Christa Stolle, who is still in this position today. She can take part in the board's meetings as an advisor (ex officio).

The Headquarter's Staffers
In 1990, the central office was established in Tübingen. Thanks to full-time appointments, the activities of the association could be extended, professionalized and better coordinated.

Eighteen women are currently working at the central office, ten of which are working on a full-time basis  (35 or 40 hours a week), two on a half-time basis (20 hours) and five are temporary workers. In addition to this, six interns usually assist them.

The staffers are allocated to the different departments as follows:
-        Administration: 5
-        Management: 4
-        Female Genital Mutilation: 1
-        Honour Crimes: 2
-        Domestic Violence: 1
-        Archive: 1
-        Urgent Actions: 1
-        Bookkeeping: 1
-        Magazine: 1
-        Calendar and Book Fair: 1
-        Apprentice: 1

The departments, at present Female Genital Mutilation, Honour Crimes and Urgent Actions, are focussing on a specific subject. Until now, each campaign has not lasted longer than two years. Therefore departments change after a couple of years.

Consequently, there have been different departments for different campaigns, like the campaigns against violence in the media, against child prostitution and sex tourism, and the social rights and textiles campaign. Due to financial constraints, we have to delegate the continuation of these issues to the working groups, who carry on campaigning in an honorary capacity. Luckily, many of the women in the working groups are very committed women, who have been working for TERRE DES FEMMES for many years and contribute great professionalism and motivation.

The Archive
TERRE DES FEMMES has established an archive, which can be used by the public. The archive contains newspaper articles, magazines, books about human rights and, above all, about women's rights issues. With these materials, we want to support those who are interested in and working for human rights.

Our aim is to upgrade this archive and develop it into a documentation centre as well as a drop-in centre for information on violations of human rights worldwide.
